How long does a khula case take?
Uncontested cases are often decreed within a few months; the Union Council certificate follows after 90 days. Contested cases take longer.
Who gets custody of children?
The Guardian Judge decides on the welfare of the child. Mothers usually have custody of young children, but every case depends on its facts.
Can a wife claim maintenance during the case?
Yes. The Family Court can fix interim maintenance early in the proceedings.
Can I file a family case from abroad?
Yes. Most family cases can be filed and pursued through a special power of attorney signed at a Pakistan embassy or consulate.
