A court marriage in Pakistan is a nikah performed with the help of an advocate, with both adults consenting, two witnesses and a nikah registrar. The nikahnama is then registered with the Union Council, which allows a computerised marriage certificate from NADRA. Both parties must be adults and consent freely.
Who this is for
- Adult couples who want a quick, lawful nikah
- Couples who need their nikah registered and a NADRA certificate issued
- Overseas Pakistanis marrying during a short visit

A lawful process
Court marriage is a nikah like any other: it needs free consent, two witnesses and registration. The advocate’s role is to make sure the documents are right and the marriage is properly registered, so the certificate is accepted by NADRA, embassies and courts.
Previously married parties
If either party was married before, proof of divorce or the spouse’s death is required. For a man with a living wife, the law requires permission from the Arbitration Council under section 6 of the MFLO, and we advise on that process.
